The Red Chair Visits…Winter Garden

-Orange County’s Arts & Cultural Affairs program is brought to

Winter Garden as an Art In Public Places Exhibit in City Hall-

Winter Garden, Florida – The Winter Garden Art in Public Places program will showcase “The Red Chair Visits,” a program of Orange County’s Arts & Cultural Affairs office. This permanent traveling exhibition promotes photographic artists, dance and theatre companies while raising awareness of the arts and cultural community through the Arts & Cultural Affairs office. The program is coordinated by Arts & Cultural Affairs Director Terry Olson.

“Winter Garden is the upcoming artistic magnet in Orange County and bringing ‘The Red Chair Visits’ continues that creative momentum,” said Olson. City Manager Michael Bollhoefer stated, “Having the Red Chair Visits program in Winter Garden furthers our embracing the artistic community and encourages more artistic and cultural experiences and opportunities.”

Additional pieces will be included in this Winter Garden exhibit from the students at the Florida Film Academy, headquartered in Winter Garden. Five pieces that highlight arts and cultural aspects in Winter Garden were picked from student submittals using the red chair to complement Orange County’s collection. The students whose art was included in the exhibit are Connie Smith, Lisa Leitl and Jeff Carter. David Haynes, an instructor at the Academy, also has three pieces in the exhibit.

Ms. Leitl’s piece New Perspectives, depicting the new Winter Garden Art Association home at 127 SoBo, was selected to be a part of the permanent collection of Red Chair collection that travels to various locations through Orange County.

The exhibit runs through January 31, 2014 in the lobby of Winter Garden’s City Hall during normal business hours.

Why the red chair?  The red chair is the community’s symbol for the arts in the community and refers to www.RedChairProject.com – the internet portal to all information about arts and cultural events in Central Florida.  All of the arts (music, dance, theatre, visual) can be viewed while seated in a chair.
