SUMMER 2019

Study Abroad: Pre College in Transylvania

Nestled in the heart of Romania, Count Kalnoky’s Castle and Guest House in the Transylvanian Village of Mikslovar/Miclosoara is our base for this unique filmmaking experience.

Instruction in screen writing, cameras and cinematography, direction and production will be interwoven with an exploration of this remarkable region.

Field trips include Bran Castle, the legendary, fictional home of Bram Stokers Count Dracula.   Alma Cave in the Gorge of the Vargyas River where legend says the Pied Piper hid the children of Hamelin and a trip to the beautifully preserved Saxon Village of Viscri, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Transylvania truly is a living film set and we’ve been given a unique opportunity to use this stage for our 2019 Pre College film making experience.

Study Level:  Beginner through Advanced

Study Areas: Scriptwriting, cinematography, direction, production, general film making and film studies.

Students are split into crews of appropriate age and experience, with an individualized curriculum.

Students are guided throughout by our industry professional instructors and learn hands-on – with the freedom to create and film stories of importance to them.

Storytelling

Story is the most important aspect of any short film. Our students have the freedom to choose a story that is important to them.

Directing

Crew roles are decided within each team with everyone having the opportunity to all roles as well as concentrate on what is most important to them.

Post Production

Because of the remote location, post production will be limited to DiT and daily review.  For students more interested in detailed editing and grading please consider our PreCollege class in St. Augustine which features intense LUT management, Premiere editing and grading with Premiere and DaVinci Resolve.
Pre college scripting

Scripting

Each team will produce a script and run thru the process of script breakdown, casting actors and listing and sourcing props.

Filming

Camera and audio equipment is decided according to story – but all tools are professional level, providing the experience of a full movie shoot.

Film Festivals

Expert FFA instructors guide students throughout on the criteria for Film Festival entry.  Many of our teams have successfully placed and won both local and international film festivals – providing excellent material for their college applications and careers.
